The purpose of language learning is to be able to communicate, but how we learn it and interact with it will impact how effectively we are able to use it. Long are the days where students learn a language by completing endless verb drills and memorizing dialogues. Students need to use the language in a more authentic setting, and desks limit this interaction. Having a classroom without desk will allow my students to be part of an open communicative learning atmosphere. The variety of ways in which chairs can be arranged will provide every student with a privileged position to observe and interact with the lesson and their peers. This classroom setting will allow for more speaking practice, collaboration, movement, flexibility, engagement, and classroom community.
