Graphic novels, award-winning literature, and relevant themes in science and social issues will set my classroom apart from others at our school and put quality literature at my students' fingertips. Newberry honor and medal titles are a favorite among my students. Graphic novels inspire creativity and expression. Application of learning through informational text is a must with the Next Generation of Science Standards. This generation of students is facing social issues that are very different, partly due to technology resources at their fingertips. Incorporating literature in the classroom that addresses cyber-bullying, gender discrimination, and simple acts of kindness is vital and relevant.
