Educating my students daily is one of my biggest passions, and each year it gets better and better. I am seeking support through Donor's Chose because as a Montessori Teacher I believe that children learn best through exploration and hands on experiences. The Montessori curriculum is rich in Botany, Zoology, geography, etc. and it is important that children illustrate and display what they have learned in a variety of ways. I also take pride in having a orderly classroom by storing materials on shelves through the use of items such as Photo box storage cases. I will bring the curriculum to life with by allowing children to explore through painting using the watercolors and paintbrushes as well as the modeling clay. When studying rocks and minerals we won't have to simply study pictures but they can look at a class collection of rocks and minerals. In public education one of the first areas to receive budget cuts is the arts, and I am striving to keep the arts alive in my classroom. I expose children to experiences such as painting, modeling, seed exploration, etc. and they love it! In addition to having experiences in the classroom, developing fluent readers is also necessary. This can be offered through readers such as; Guided reading collections, literature in general math/fractions, and seasons. Literature can be found in all subject areas in our classroom and reading is always encouraged. In addition to reading I want my students to grow in the area of writing using composition books to journal and write experiences daily. In the Montessori curriculum we develop great writers through the use of metal insets and inset paper. It is my goal to develop not only great students but lifelong learners!
