Students who continue to struggle in reading by third grade, lack phonological awareness skills as well as alphabet knowledge. These resources will allow me to provide hands-on activities and strategies for my students in these areas. Phonological awareness is a crucial component to becoming a reader. Struggling readers are more likely to learn essential reading skills if direct and explicit instruction is provided. I want to be able to “innovate” changes and new ideas that will increase my students' reading ability so they can “achieve” success and “excel” not only in my classroom but in their regular classroom. Innovate • Achieve • Excel - These words reflect the vision of my classroom as my students strive to become lifelong learners.
