As we celebrate all the wonderful people who have contributed to making the world a better place, I would love to have a wide variety of books to pull from. I would love to have my student whose family is from Asia read a book about Maya-Lin and my African American student read about Gordon Parks. I have interracial students who should hear about the Lovings and their landmark case. I have girls in my class who don't see representations of the themselves in the field of science and technology. They need to read about great women scientists and know that girls can rock math! Another emphasis for me is in being an ally to one another and supporting each other emotionally through showing empathy and love.
