In an ever-changing world, the challenge to capture the sustained attention of our students is escalating. Children still need direct instruction from an individual teacher to give them the opportunities to grow in their conversational skills and intellectual stamina, all the while allowing for hands-on involvement in their learning. With students growing up in front of "screens" for significant amounts of time, it is proving more and more difficult to hold their attention in a classroom. Any avenue we can provide for them to release energy, but sustain focus will prove to have positive results. One way that I would like to do this is through weekly STEM projects. I want the students to be intentional about their science/math application to real world engineering/building/creating/problem-solving for an extended period of uninterrupted time at least once a week.
