Teaching in a low income area many of my students never get to experience making food and do not get many experiences with different food. As a teacher who loves to cook and read I would love to bring some cooking into the classroom and use some of our books to do a "Book Tasting". The lesson would be something the kids would never forget. There are so many great books out there that I can use to do amazing lessons on, and include cooking in the lesson. We could read a book and make a recipe that goes along with the story. The Oster Oven, will be used when we read a story of a hen who bakes strawberry shortcakes. Students will use the ice cream maker to learn that to ice cream doesn’t just come to the store, that it has to be made. My class could experience new cultures not just in the story, but by the food we create. I would love to use the burner and pots to make bee-bim bop after reading. They could taste, for the first time, the foods inside the story and bring it to life. Right now, I bring as much as I can from home, but it would be so wonderful to have materials at school to use when we needed them. Not only will students have fun, but they will be able to experience new foods and learn where foods come from.
