I teach EIP students. EIP is Early Intervention Program. Students who qualify for this program are identified through a checklist of skills they need to be successful. My school is in a poverty neighborhood with about 80% receiving free lunch. With an enrollment of 750 K-5th grade students, our number of EIP students is massive. I currently serve 38 Kindergarten students for Reading and 31 students for Math, 12 First grade students for Reading and Math and 16 students 2nd grade students in reading and Math . I am one of 5 EIP teachers at our school. The others serve just as many students. Our students are eager to learn but lack the background knowledge to build from. They also have difficulty staying on task for long periods of time. I have found that they learn more through hands-on activities.
