Learning to read is an extremely empowering and unique journey for each child. When the skills don't come together as quickly as those around them, students tend to disengage from reading and reject what they feel are "baby books." I hope to build a high-interest reading garden, a selection of books that have accessible text paired with age-appropriate content and illustrations, to support our "late bloomers" in cultivating their own love of reading. The more positive opportunities for eyes on print that we provide students with, the greater their chances of becoming readers. When they realize that reading can be fun, they will be unstoppable!
