These books will add even more life and variety to our classroom library. By introducing more graphic novels and novels written in verse, the students will see that there are many different ways writers can create their stories and also many ways readers get to interact with a text. These novels are also special to our classroom library because they will be stories that meet the demand for more diverse books.
With this new installment to our classroom library, my students will be able to independently read books and also recommend books to their classmates.
These books also allow for students to choose books that pique their interest since they include dystopian novels, graphic novels, novels written in verse, etc. I have chosen books like The Crossover and March: Book One to introduce more diverse books into our classroom library. I have also chosen books like The City of Ember and The Firefly Code so that my students can go into the world of dystopia and go on adventures along with the characters. The books they will read will not only be used for Independent Reading but also for Student-Led Book Talks where they will recommend novels for others in the class by giving a review of the text to their classmates.
