GROSS! BUGS! That's what most kids think. My project will allow students multiple hands-on learning opportunities to really get to know insects in their natural habitat. Have you ever wondered what an ant colony looks like underground, or how a praying mantis develops? I have! Students will first learn to identify distinguishing characteristics of insects through a microscope. After that, the learning opportunities are limitless with live bugs! This project will allow students to watch an ant colony develop and thrive, observe the social patters of termites, and document the life cycle of a praying mantis. All of this will be accomplished during a year-long environmental science project to take the CREEPY stigma away from insects!
