I am requesting equipment to set up a listening center in my second grade classroom. I think that by having a listening center in my classroom, this will help the stories come alive and encourage all of my student to develop a love for reading. It is most important that the struggling readers, English Language Learners, and students with learning disabilities in my classroom will be able to gain confidence in their reading by being provided help in word identification and a solid model of fluent reading. On-level readers will be able to learn new vocabulary words through being able to listen to a variety of literature, as well as emphasis the importance of using expression while reading. Above- level readers would also benefit by being challenged to read and follow along with more advanced reading material.
