In my classroom, my students spend 90 minutes of reading instruction daily. We start off every reading lesson with a read aloud, then split into centers where students are engaged in various reading activities, such as reading to each other, to themselves, and listening to reading. These picture books will immerse my students in exciting literature that will engage them in their reading instruction. The classic picture books on the list will give my ELL students the experience of knowing the classic American tales. The multicultural books will give my students a chance to make text to self connections and make them culturally aware of others in their community. Lastly, the books that focus on social skills will provide my students models on how to treat each other with empathy, respect, and kindness.
