I would like to continue working with my students to foster a learning environment that is safe and comfortable for everyone. Our greatest need at this time is furniture pieces and fidget items that meet the emotional needs of this high needs demographic. The exercise ball chairs provide sensory input for some of my students that present with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or students that need a brief change in seating due to other emotional needs. My intention is to create an area within our classroom that is used as a stress relief corner. The exercise ball chairs would be placed there as well as few caddies filled with sensory input toys. Many students have anxiety, however, the students that I directly work with are affected by anxiety disorders on a near-daily basis. The most common manifestation of their anxiety is foot tapping/ chair kicking. The chair bands are a simple solution to allow students that necessary sensory input without disrupting learning. Providing my students with these necessary items would honor the effort made by each student. They work to not only meet their individualized academic goals but their social/ emotional goals as well.
