My students need to feel comfortable during their school day. For many of my students, school is the safest, happiest, most exciting location they go. Not even adults like to sit in hard chairs or on the hard floor for very long, yet most teacher expect their students to do just that and also be engaged. I believe that if our classroom feels more comfortable, these children will be more focused and eager to learn! Having choice is a big part of feeling that you have some power in your own learning. Choice should not be limited to adults only. Children need to feel like they can choose the best place for them to concentrate and grow. Second graders are just starting to be advocates for their learning needs and knowing where the best place to sit is one of those important aspects of learning. I want my students to feel like our classroom is the most wonderful place to learn, grow and have fun!
