Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry will be used to teach my summer school students the required standards that they missed throughout the regular school year. Students will read the novel, identify critical literary elements, conduct close reading, and conduct research about the time period. Students will also engage in literary circles & Socratic seminars. Socratic seminars & literature circles allow students the opportunities to use higher order thinking, debate issues, & revise and edit responses. These techniques also allow me to challenge student thinking while determining students' understanding of the concepts to offer alternative grades, rather than traditional paper & pencil tests.
