I believe having these items in my classroom will allow my students to feel a sense of ownership in their learning. I feel that giving students a choice in where to sit helps them understand themselves as learners. We need a rug, Wiggle Seats and Wobble Chairs. Some of my students need to stand up, and some of them prefer to sit. I even have students who like to lie down on their bellies. Right now my classroom is pretty crowded with 4 main tables in the middle of my room where my kids sit for most of the day. They do have opportunities throughout the day to get up and sit on the floor, but, even then, it's pretty crowded. We love to dance while we learn, but I have to limit their movement due to space. I currently do not have a large carpet because I don't have the space for it. Each child has a handmade carpet square that we use for whole group learning. Kindergartners are very active and want to use all of their senses while learning; flexible seating will encourage this learning!
