My students are constantly asking me to teach them to play the piano. We have one acoustic piano in the classroom and one electric piano keyboard. Unfortunately, because of the noise level, and time (due to limited resources,) it is difficult to give every student a chance to explore their musicality on the piano. I would like them to build their confidence in music by playing the piano. The layout of the keyboard has a nice visual pattern, which makes it easy for students of all ages. Low notes are to the left, higher notes to the right. The keyboard layout makes it easy to see the relationships between the staff and the piano, especially when it comes to high and low pitches, as well as intervals, and chords. Playing the piano will give my students the opportunity to learn the foundations of music through an all-encompassing approach including kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learning. Prior piano experience gives students a tremendous head start in choosing another instrument. This is because they have experience reading both the treble clef and the bass clef. These are just a few of the reasons I would like 15 new portable electric pianos. As my students grow in their skill-level, I would like them to be able to play their electric pianos together as an ensemble for practice, and during performances. Since the electric pianos will be portable, we will be able to easily pack them for performances that involve travel.
