Over the last few years I have collected pieces of furniture to allow for flexible seating in my classroom, as everything I read always says to start small to try it out and budgets are always limited. I have one standing desk, several seat cushions, and a couple stability ball chairs that I love and was able to fund additional standing desks, bean bag type chairs, and some AV equipment through school funds for next year. But I don't want to stop there. I want to throw caution to the wind and do a full classroom make over by purchasing the furniture in this project and DIY/repurposing current pieces we could transform our entire learning environment. I can not make my students motivated, but I can create a more motivating learning environment where students feel connected to their class/community, feel a sense of autonomy and choice, and feel confident that they possess the skills they need to meet school challenges. Help me level the playing field for these students, transform the portable classroom picture, and give them all the benefits of a newly renovated classroom with flexible seating that can meet their very individual and unique needs.
