We are looking for ways to continue our students' love for reading with engaging books and durable bags for them to use at home. The majority of our students do not have ANY books at home to read. Book bags for the classroom will allow each student to have differentiated books at their access level readily available to them. These book bags will be labeled with each student's name to allow smooth access for independent reading. With almost 100% of the student population being English Language Learners trying to grasp all of the concepts of the English Language, it is extremely important that they spend as much time as possible immersed in books. These books bags will also hold sight word and picture cards. Students sit in pairs and quiz each other and this helps increase vocabulary. A lifelong love of reading begins at a young age; there is no better time than kindergarten to spend time investigating all different types of books. These reading bags will help all students have access to level appropriate books that they are interested in. In the process, students will be improving their reading abilities which will make them all feel more successful. Our hope is that this experience will instill for our students a true love of reading.
