I teach a population of Special Education students that so much want to do what their same age peers are doing in the classroom! Their peers are reading, writing, and learning using a personal Chromebook. For students with reading difficulties, this can be an embarrassing nightmare! Before technology, we would remove these students into a small classroom where they could have material read aloud to them or get extra one on one help spelling unknown words. But all kids want to belong, and this is not the way of the future. Our school system has purchased a read write software which allows students to access all written material with audio and spelling support. My students continue to need headphones and a mouse in order to "learn" independently like their peers. Just watching these kids accessing curriculum like their peers brings so much satisfaction!
