I need a class set (25) of the class book My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett. I teach a group of 1st graders that read beyond their grade level. While I work on vocabulary and reading strategies, I also introduce quality literature to keep them interested in reading. This is the first of a three-book series. The writing is terrific and highly motivating. We are currently reading the last of our novel sets. Our grade level needs more class sets of interesting and motivating texts. We have read biographies about Helen Keller and Buddy, the First Seeing Eye dog. We have read nonfiction from National Geographic. We have read fantasy with Flat Stanley. This book, My Father's Dragon is a Newbery Honor Book. It's full of imagination. When I have used the book as a read aloud in previous years, my students have loved it. So I'm sure this "Beyond" group of readers will really enjoy it. This class set will reach 25 students at a time, 4 to 5 times through the school year for years to come.
