Through flexible seating students get the opportunity to take responsibility for their learning. They can find a space where they feel comfortable learning and working which will enhance and maximize their engagement while working individually or in partners. For example, the wobble chairs will help the students that are unable to stay seated at their tables for long periods of time when doing work. As a teacher, I have given students the opportunity to choose an area in the classroom where they would like to work. The change is noticeable, they are engaged and non disruptive to their peers during this time. Flexible seating will also give the students the opportunity to make decisions independently. They will decide on their own where to work and they will have to make a responsible choice. Flexible seating will not only enhance learning, but it will also enhance their sense of responsibility towards school property. Not many teachers have the opportunity to have flexible seating, and having this opportunity in my classroom will help students understand why it is so important to treat our classroom materials with respect.
