Julia Cook books provide a non-confrontational way for me to talk to my students about social situations that have a negative impact on their day to day activities in the school setting. My students are about to relate to the character and learn from his/her mistakes. The book presents teachable moments for the students without them feeling they are being accused of the behavior. They are able to talk about the story and independently make the connection to their own life. Julia Cook books help my students learn how to people (interact in social situations appropriately). The books create a fun and interactive social learning environment that my students are easily able to relate with and can transfer the skills to their own life.
