My view of the classroom was transformed 2 years ago when I began implementing flexible seating in my classroom. As a teacher, having students seated in chairs in nicely organized groups of desks helped ease the control freak in me. However, I realized that my students would become fatigued and unfocused because they were so uncomfortable. I took a leap of faith to begin using flexible seating in my classroom, and I have NEVER looked back! I did several DIY projects and purchased items from discount stores to make flexible seating possible out of my own pocket. Unfortunately the quality of these items has deteriorated after 2 wonderful years of use, and I feel the need to upgrade. Giving my kids the opportunity to choose seats in which they know they can do their best learning, increases the engagement in my classroom on a daily basis. I have adjusted the heights of the desks in my classroom, and these various seating options would fit perfectly. The wobble stools would give students flexibility to move on a small scale, without interrupting those around them. Similarly, the exercise ball chairs give students the opportunity to move, while still staying in a balanced position. Finally, the lap desks give the students flexibility to work on the carpet, or it can even be added to the top of a desk to allow for work to be done while standing.
