My students are nine and ten and like many kids their age, they want to move...a lot. With seating that allows for movement, they are able to move and also focus on the lesson or work within their teams. Some students need the ability to move without being embarrassed by the way they learn. If they have seating that moves without drawing attention to them- it's a win-win for all involved. We will use these requested Balance Ball Chairs, Wobble Chairs, and Empire Chairs during math, reading, and independent reading. The chairs will give the students a place to divert some of their energy while continuing to focus on their academic tasks. Overall this seating allows kids to be kids and learning to take place at the same time. Students with ADHD are still expected to complete their assignments and often they have "frequent breaks" written within their IEPs. Flexible seating allows those breaks to happen within our classroom so they aren't missing our lesson. Overall, this seating allows kids to be kids and learning to take place at the same time.
