Robotics kits are a great way to engage students in, fun and challenging hands-on learning. Utilizing the Arduino (TM) open source platform increases individual access to technology, because of it's relatively low cost. These materials will provide enough supplies to allow 15 students to take ownership of their own individual robot. Students will learn about electrical circuits, basic programming, and also gain experience with proper tool use and safety in our Maker-space. The key to future success is to provide students with the skills to keep them competitive in the 21st-century economy. Some students will continue to farm, but many will need to commute or move to more populated areas to find employment. Robotics kits can help them set the foundation for a career in technology. My students will be using these kits to build robots to compete at the National Robotics Challenge (NRC). The NRC is held every April in Marion, Ohio. At the NRC they will have the opportunity to collaborate and network with students and business professionals. This competition is a fantastic environment to motivate students and to celebrate student achievement.
