Every year, our 7th grade students study the Holocaust to learn about the historical causes and effects of how governments interact on the world stage. We are fortunate enough to have a local survivor come to share her experiences with our students, which is quite powerful. However, these experiences are almost unimaginable without the context of the places and people she describes. We have access to a virtual reality tour of a concentration camp in Poland, but to have the full impact, we need D-scope Pro Google Cardboard VR Goggles. With the D-scope Pro Google Cardboard VR Goggles, students will feel as if they are in the concentration camp as they walk, virtually, in and out of the hospital facilities and sleeping quarters that the Jews were relegated to. Bringing the abstract knowledge of this historical event to life, virtually, will help develop the students' understanding of this tragic page in the history of our world. In addition to the history content, the teachers also focus on developing tolerance on a broader scale. The idea of putting yourself in someone else's shoes can be tough for this age group to do. However, having such a concrete experience using the D-scope Pro Google Cardboard VR Goggles will help develop that empathy that can prevent history from repeating itself.
