Listening Centers will allow my students to hear a variety of text as they build their language and literacy skills. This will reinforce their ability to see how printed words are closely connected with spoken words. They will benefit my students who are struggling with decoding because it gives them the opportunity to listen to the text in its spoken form. Listening Centers model fluent reading, helps students decode unfamiliar words, teaches critical listening skills, introduces new vocabulary, and will allow my students to be introduced to books above their reading level. My goal is to help my students not only become fluent readers but to understand the message, think critically about the content, make connections and use their imagination, because after all, that is at the heart of what it means to be a reader and why kids learn to love books.
