Students will use Chromebooks for math instruction and project based learning in my classroom. I want to implement blended learning into math instruction to help effectively meet the needs of all learners, while using technology more authentically in my instruction. I want my students to become more responsible for their own learning. Blended learning provides technology integration, student accountability/ personalized instruction, and differentiation. The superintendent also set a goal for each 2nd grade class to show that 50% of the students met their growth target goals in math for spring MAP testing. I expressed my concerns about addressing all the needs of my students during math and my interest in learning more about blended learning to the Technology Learning Coach (TLC) and principal at my school. They are very supportive of my interest, but there are no funds available for the purchase of enough Chromebooks to effectively implement. My students love to ask questions and investigate to find the answers. My students need to be able to complete assignments that require them to use more complex and abstract thinking. Implementing project-based learning into my classroom will create highly engaging learning experiences for my students. Students will be actively engaged in inquiry-based learning in which strategies and content is seamlessly integrated and age appropriate. The projects will be based on a student’s inquiry and driven by the students’ desire to do their small part to make a difference in the world. These real-world experiences will require access to devices for research and collaboration among my students.
