The block area is always a choice during our Interest Area and Free Choice time. Many of my students LOVE engaging in the block area to build their community or to see how high they can build a tower. Giving my students more choices of materials to build with they will be able to deepen their exploration, interest, and creativity. Block play sets the foundation for important mathematical and science development. When a child engages in block play they are learning about geometry, spatial relationships, gravity, and balance. To build complex structures children need to understand size, weight, leverage, and balance. The large hollow blocks will give my students the opportunity to work their large motor muscles as well. Additionally, block play supports social and emotional development such as an increased attention span, sharing, and resiliency. I want my students to be successful in the future, and block play supports necessary skills for future success!
