Being able to sit still and in your own area for more than a few minutes is not an asset you will find in many pre-k students. However, this is a skill needed to be successful in the school environment as we spend the large majority of the day on the floor. So much of early education requires young children to listen and attain to a task. That is hard to do when your body is telling you to move, move, move! Donations to this project will allow me to provide a flexible seating option that allows my active learners to seek out the sensory input their bodies need while also staying focused, calm and happy. Sitting in the howdahug chair feels like getting a hug from your favorite person. Students will have a defined space of their own while still being able to rock back and forth for the movement needed to stay engaged while not being a distraction to themselves or others. These chairs are lightweight and durable, they are easy to store and to move from place to place. Therefore a student can use the howdahug during carpet time in their homeroom classroom as well as taking it with them to music class or school-wide assemblies. I currently have one howdahug chair in my classroom and can wholeheartedly say this is the best seating option I have ever found for my students. By donating to this project you would be helping to provide a more movement-friendly classroom for some very sweet and smart students.
