These two novels, Tangerine and Fish in a Tree, will be used in my two middles school special education ELA classes. Our goal in ELA is to improve our reading and writing skills so that the students are able to ultimately join their general education peers. My students are noticeably more engaged in their reading and less disruptive to their peers when they are given reading materials that are of high interest and relative to their middle school lives. These two novels will complement and add a further dimension to our current novel studies of Wonder and Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life.
