My students come into the classroom each week and take turns book “shopping” from our classroom library. Their faces light up as they grab a “new” book and put it in their bag. As the year goes on, they end up reading almost all of my books because I am still working on building up our library. Our classroom library consists of books I have purchased out of my own pocket, books donated by parents and even some special books from my own childhood. Our library contains leveled books as well as author specific and genre based. I teach students from all different backgrounds who in first grade are reading anywhere from Kindergarten to 3rd grade level. I would love to give my students the opportunity to choose from a variety of quality books throughout the school year that are on their level in my classroom.
