Providing students will access to independent reading books at their guided reading level will help foster 4th grade readers! Our school is beginning Readers Workshop from Lucy Calkins at Teachers College, which emphasizes teaching specific reading strategies and promoting a LOVE of reading in the classroom and beyond. Closing the achievement gap in reading instruction for Title I students begins with providing access to high-quality texts at their level! Reading instruction is the first hour of our day and the books that are purchased will be used on a daily basis by students at a variety of reading levels! Having a variety of leveled guided reading books helps promote volume reading, stamina and fluency!
