This project will provide my students access to a variety of cultures and communities through literature. Not only will some students find familiarity and comfort in these stories, but others will have exposure and be able to develop a sense of understanding and empathy for these characters. If children are exposed to a diverse range of characters in the books they read, this will prepare them for the world they will become a part of. I have selected diverse books to empower, normalize, and make visible those readers who might otherwise feel forgotten or like their stories don’t deserve to be told. Everyone deserves to see themselves in books!

About my class
