Our club creates math games for lower grades to take home and practice math skills. The students come together bi-weekly using creativity to reinforce math concepts like addition, subtractions, place value and shapes. The card stock is used to create the boards, the dice are used to roll and determine spaces or roll numbers to add and subtract, and the counters will be used as pieces. Each first grader and kindergartner were able to take at least 1 game home to reinforce math. Last year our students made roll a number for kindergarten students who were sent with dice and sheets where they had to roll and cover different number representations using the counters. For first grade the students created shape sorts on card stock and cut them out so students could practice sorting at home, they also created adding and subtracting games. One game mirrored candy land another used a baseball theme.
