With these novels, students will be able to represent themselves through books. Additionally, students will be able to become more culturally aware and responsive by seeing how we are different. Even though we may come from different backgrounds, we can all work towards and achieve a common goal. The books selected teach students about people who overcame adversity to promote equality and a better world. Representation matters in schools. Students need to see themselves in books to know that are cared, listened to, loved and matter. All students matter and all books needs to show that.
