My students are the best bunch of lively fifth graders. They rotate classes and I see about one hundred students a day. They are eager to learn and strive hard for success. They are from a high poverty area in South Carolina and though some of them have very little, they make gains in learning by leaps and bounds with interactive and hands on activities. On an average, fifty percent of my class comes to me on or below grade level. Everyday students share their dreams about how they are going to grow up to become a professional (doctor or lawyer) one day. As a future professional, they need a foundation grounded in math and reading.
