This year I have tried to create a classroom where all feel welcome and accomplished. One way to promote a feeling of TEAM in my room is through communicating our thoughts and feelings in a respectful and positive way. One of the books I have asked for, Donavin's Word Jar, shows how words can emote feelings and change situations completely around. Love That Dog also shows the power of words through poetry. By reading both of these books, my students will learn new vocabulary words and how words can make or break situations. My third graders love to read, especially when they can find a spot around the room that is not at their desks! I currently have some flexible seating options but not enough for all my students. They need various options of seating to fit all their needs.
