My students are all impaired in some way, either with mental handicaps, learning disabilities or other health impairments. The students are in grades 3 to 5 but may function on the level of 1st graders in some skills. They attend a rural school that is in a very high poverty location. The educational push is for them to participate in the general curriculum even though for some they lack the foundational skills necessary for true success. We struggle every day to attain our missing skills while trying with every resource to grasp the material that is being presented at grade level.
