Reading is more than words on paper, it is the adventure you get through its events and the people you get to know through the characters. It is wanting to go back and read it over again because everything about it made you more excited about reading! This is what I want for my students in the classroom, to be introduced to a chapter book that they will remember reading years from now! I want them to know that reading makes your world BIG! What better way to end the school year than with a fun independent reading through the Tale of Despereaux, a story outside the usual textbook! Students don't often get to fully explore a chapter book with fun projects to go along with it throughout the year and this will be a great opportunity for them to do so. With this book, my students will not only go on an exciting adventure with the characters, but will also have the opportunity to compare and contrast the story elements to the movie version of the book! Both academic learning and fun altogether!
