My students may come from all over the globe but there are 21st century skills that all of them will need regardless of where they come from or where they have landed. Some of my students have had very little, if any, exposure to technology including laptops, tablets, and smartphones. I have had students who are so unfamiliar with technology that they did not know how to turn on the machines or how to use a mouse pad. When it came time for students to complete state testing online some were not able to demonstrate their abilities because they did not have the skills to navigate the computer. This lack of access has put them at a disadvantage that they do not deserve and that I want to correct. I cannot be an analog teacher who teaches in a digital world and I cannot expect my students to be 21st century champions if we do not have the necessary tools to accomplish these goals. I want to support my students as they complete online assessments, write reports, express themselves, and have fun. These laptops will also provide opportunities for students to access literacy and math in very independent ways that I can monitor and modify at the click of the mouse. I can differentiate instruction easily for students by providing them with targeted online assignments tailored for them. With these laptops I will be able to help them grow and develop into 21st century champions!
