To help improve problem-solving and collaboration among students and groups my classroom needs vertical non-permanent writing surfaces (Wizard Wall Dry Erase Sheets). This allows for students to get up out of their desks, expand their thinking larger than a piece of paper, and helps students clearly explain solutions and points of confusion. Using vertical non-permanent writing surfaces creates an optimal problem-solving environment for students. This not only allows students the opportunity to attempt problems without the anxiety of getting the wrong answer but it also invites more collaboration among peers. The work is visible to the teacher and everyone in the classroom. My ultimate goal is to continue defrosting the classroom to help shift the focus of the learning. Traditionally, students learned in a desk with a pencil and paper; I want students to learn how to problem-solve actively with their peers.
