As a reading specialist, I am focused on not only getting my students to read, but to fall in love with reading. It can be very difficult to make reading engaging for students that are struggling and that do not have the motivation. In my room, students are encouraged to be independent learners. They are able to make responsible choices on where they learn best. This can be at a table, independently, with a buddy, or in a comfortable reading corner. The majority of students that attend the school are English language learners that come from low-income households. My goal is to continue to create a positive, comfortable learning environment where students are independent and learn to fall in love with reading.
