My students are an extremely diverse bunch. More than half of them receive free-and-reduced lunch, meaning they come from impoverished homes. Their parents work one or two jobs just to make ends meet, and when survival is the top priority, school often gets put on the back burner. My students' abilities range from high to low, and everywhere in between, but they are all fabulous kids who are all making progress! More than half my students are English Language Learners (ELL), so not only are they expected to learn to read, but they are expected to do so in a new language. They are very well-behaved and can work well independently, which is why I need more independent learning activities, like those i have chosen for this project. I have created a student-centered environment, but frankly, need more supplies to make it more effective.
