Through this experience, the 5th grade students will get to see first hand what it was like to live during colonial times. My vision is to set up 13 stations (the 13 original colonies) with games, crafts, and food. My students will choose colonial names and jobs while dressing up in colonial attire. Select students will be in charge of running the 13 stations. These are the stations: 1. Knot Tying 2. Make a Spoon Doll 3. Target Practice 4. Silhouette Drawing 5. Feather Writing 6. Hopscotch 7. Make a Bilbo Catcher 8. Marble Shoot 9. Horseshoe Pitching 10. How to: Churning Butter 11. How to: Candied Orange Peels 12. How to: Baked Apples 13. How to: Hasty Pudding Each student will be assigned a station to work, dressed as a specific important person to that colony. For example, our Massachusetts Bay Colony will be run by John Winthrop, the Puritan leader. The aprons and hats I requested are for female students who can not afford to purchase costumes, as it will be less likely they have these items at home. Colonial Day will give my students a lifelong memory and deeper comprehension of what life was truly like during colonial times.
