My students struggle to maintain attention when made to sit in traditional student desks and seats all day long. They seek sensory input, movement and comfort throughout the day. My dream is to create a classroom where my students have many seating options available to enhance their learning and productivity. I believe that if given more options, children will choose the type of seating which fits them best. I believe that flexible seating will help children maintain attention and find greater success. As a special educator, my goal everyday is to meet the individual needs of each of my students. I have worked closely with our Occupational Therapist to incorporate some of these tools in my classroom but our supply is very limited. We only have enough for two or three students. I have seen how every child in the class wants the chance to use the various tools but are unable to do so. Therefore, my goal is to redesign my whole classroom to provide beanbags, cushions and lapdesks for every student. I want my children to come to my classroom everyday and feel happy and excited to work in a beautiful, welcoming and comfortable work space.
