My students love to hear me, the librarian, parent volunteers and principal read them stories. I love reading and I have made it my purpose to pass on that love of reading to my students. Having quality spanish books available for their tiny hands is instrumental. With these new books my students will be able to take them home and have their parents read to them as well. As parents borrow these books they will be made aware of how powerful it is to read with/to their child. Bringing literacy home in their language is just the beginning! I can see a check out system work for my class parents. Weekly my students select a number of books to take home. I envision allowing parents to come in once a week and allowing them to select books as well. Not having the income for buying books will not be an issue as I will have them available and in their language.
