My students are amazing but they struggle sometimes with understanding ideas based on a drawing or a number. I've noticed that when I use random items in the class they grasp the bigger picture so much faster, especially when it comes to fractions. It is for this reason that I asked for mathematic manipulatives. A hands-on experience is just what they need to grasp the math concepts that we are learning about now, and to review in preparation for 6th grade. These students care about their education and I know that having items like fraction strips, counters, base ten blocks, and unifix cubes will help them and future students that enter this classroom understand fractions.
